IMS Ibiza 2025: Cultural Reflections, Diversity, and the Power of Women in the New Global Landscape

Three days of intense discussions reveal that the future of electronic music goes beyond numbers, with Afro House, innovation, and female leaders at the heart of the transformation

IMS Ibiza 2025 wrapped up with a clear message: the future of electronic music is built on culture, diversity, and genuine connections. Across three days of insightful programming, topics such as the cultural impact beyond figures, the global growth of genres like afro house, and the strengthening of new markets were discussed. Emotionally charged moments, practical career reflections, and a look at the next generation defined this historic edition, with strong female presence leading key discussions.

The IMS Business Report 2025, presented by Mark Mulligan (MIDiA Research), emphasized that positive growth—such as the 6% market growth in 2024—is driven by the culture thriving in real spaces of connection and celebration. The report revealed how each country and even each city shapes its own electronic identity, underscoring the importance of initiatives that connect local scenes to the global movement.

Among these expanding scenes, afro house stood out as one of the major topics. In a panel led by Dare Balogun, artists like Jackie Queens offered valuable perspectives on the essence of the genre: "spirituality, joy, dance, and the Black experience." Her words were among the most powerful moments of the event, emphasizing the importance of keeping authenticity and cultural experiences at the heart of the genre that has reached the mainstream. Shimza also highlighted the freedom afro house provides for authentic, boundary-free artistic expression.

The female presence also had special moments in various areas of the event. In the The Art of Areté space, the intimate conversation between Patrick Mason, journalist Chloe Lula, and choreographer Cecilia Bengolea moved the audience. Cecilia demonstrated how internal emotions translate into movement, connecting personal stories of resistance and self-discovery. This panel highlighted the importance of bodily expression as an extension of artistic identity—a view particularly relevant to women and LGBTQIAPN+ artists.

Another standout was Jaguar’s reflection on the importance of radio as a bridge between the real and digital worlds, particularly in giving voice to new generations of artists. The British DJ and presenter emphasized how human connections, created through music, remain fundamental in an algorithm-driven era.

The diversity of topics also extended to new markets like the Middle East and South Asia, with delegations from over 50 countries present. This internationalization signals an era where women and artists from all backgrounds will emerge and transform the global scene.

A practical panel on career management also drew attention, with Sophia Kearney (HE.SHE.THEY.) interviewing managers of Mochakk and Vintage Culture. The discussion provided valuable advice on brand building, artistic consistency, and authenticity—essential topics for DJs and producers aiming to thrive in an increasingly competitive market.

Finally, IMS emphasized that the next generation should focus less on social media numbers and more on creating unique, authentic sounds. As Martín Ferrer Vega (Amnesia) reminded us, music is made to be an honest expression—a piece of advice perfectly aligned with the mission of emerging artists seeking space for their voices.

With intense debates, heartfelt exchanges, and a clear emphasis on diversity, IMS Ibiza 2025 confirmed: the future of electronic music will be led by those who understand that culture, inclusion, and authenticity are the foundation of everything.
